Appleyard Case Study
GOALS: To reduce the businesses reliance on the owner and move the business to profitability
BUSINESS IN PROFILE: A wholesale meat supplier delivering direct to the trade.
THE CHALLENGES: The business had been formed to try and generate extra income for the owners after some investments became liabilities. The owner was running the business by day and holding down a full time job by night. This was having a negative effect on the owner’s family life and creating real pressure.
THE STRATEGIES: A full review of price and cash flow was undertaken and improvements made to margins and debt collection systems. All roles and responsibilities were then documented and staff were brought in to manage the accounts, deliveries and account management. Lastly a focused client recruitment program was designed and implemented to boost turnover and profits.
THE OUTCOMES: The owner no longer works in the business and will be giving up full time employment in the autumn, the business has clear direction and the whole organisation is aligned towards hitting sales targets and customer service. The profits have doubled and the owner’s quality of life has significantly improved. In the words of his wife.
‘******* is a new man, I cannot tell you how pleased I am.’
