Brief

Operating out of a little blue shop on Seaford high street, Shoreline Accountants offers a wide range of accounting and taxation services to small businesses across the southeast. Headed up by Director, Mark Boxall, the business has enjoyed steady growth since opening in 2011. But with more clients on the books, Mark felt the pressure of expansion and needed a way to regain control of his business.

Problem

There’s a huge difference between working on your business and working in your business. In Mark’s case, it was the latter which meant Shoreline Accountants had become completely reliant on his input. For a business owner, this translates as more stress, more work and more time reacting to the demands of a business rather than generating growth. With one stressful day after the next, it was time for Mark to give me a call so we could get his business back on track.

Here’s what we did.

Approach

As well as implementing robust processes and procedures to help Mark grow his business, it was also necessary to change Mark’s mindset.

By instinctively fixating on any negatives with his business, Mark would hesitate to make any changes (including moving to a bigger office). Having someone in his corner with an objective view helped Mark gain perspective on the success of his business. It gave him the confidence to grow Shoreline Accountants to a team of nine staff in a new office with over 500 clients across Sussex…and counting. Sometimes it just takes a little reassurance.

Results

• Increased staff members from just Mark to a team of nine.

• Taken away negative hurdles to grow the business.

•  Clear plan for the business over the next ten years.

“Before I met Gary, my business was taking over my life. I now feel like I’m in a position of control and looking forward to the future growth of the business.”

— Mark Boxall, Director, Shoreline Accountants
